2019 ULI Spring Meeting — Nashville, TN

EnvironCapital attended Urban Land Institute’s Spring Meeting in Nashville, TN and put together a panel of industry experts to discuss recent trends in home building mergers and acquisitions. Titled “Builder Mergers and Acquisitions and its Impact on the Business”, the discussion included an in-depth exploration of both development and home building M&A activity over the past several years, including motivating factors, financing structures, capital sources, and the outlook for future industry consolidation and growth. Invited panel participants included Tim Gehan, former CEO of Gehan Homes and President of JTG Holdings in Dallas, Matt Wyman, Partner of Cox, Castle and Nicholson in San Francisco, and Tom McKay, Senior Vice President of North America Sekisui House in Washington D.C. The panel was moderated by Tony Avila of Builder Advisor Group.

KC-CUR Opportunity Zone Strategy Committee — Kansas City, MO

EnvironCapital joined as a participant on the strategy committee for the KC Catalytic Urban Redevelopment Initiative to discuss means and methods to take advantage of investment opportunities within Opportunity Zones as part of a larger effort to help revitalize urban areas in eastern Kansas City and to bring security and economic prosperity to blighted or under-utilized urban areas. A particular focus was the ability to provide a real economic impact to identified corridors while preserving affordable housing and rents. The KC-CUR initiative is being pursued by a coalition of groups including the Greater Kansas City LISC, the City of Kansas City Missouri (KCMO), the Urban Neighborhood Initiative, Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), and the Kansas City district chapter of the Urban Land Institute.

2018 Pacific Coast Builders Conference — San Francisco, CA

EnvironCapital was invited to participate on an informative panel discussion at the annual, 10,000-attendee Pacific Coast Builders Conference in San Francisco as part of its Land & Capital Forum. The panel discussion titled “Components of Equity Today” shared insights on the trends, structures, and underwriting assumptions of equity investments in multi-family, home building, and planned development across the country. Mike Van Epp joined fellow panel participants Tony Avila, CEO of Builder Advisor Group / Encore Housing Fund and David Valiaveedan, Managing Partner of Domain Real Estate Partners in discussing the outlook of real estate investments and current underwriting assumptions for deal making. The panel was moderated by Steven Friedman, Director of CohnReznick.

2018 Phoenix Land and Housing Forecast — Scottsdale, AZ

EnvironCapital convened with regional and national industry representatives at the 2018 Phoenix Land and Housing Forecast hosted by Land Advisors Organization. The conference included an overview of the Phoenix economy, the recent statistics behind the valley’s residential growth, and the outlook for continued employment, population, and permit growth. Developing trends in the Phoenix market include the emergence of new single-family rental projects and movement towards providing attainable housing options. Guest speakers included John Burns, CEO of John Burns Consulting, Greg Vogel, CEO of Land Advisors Organization, and Christie Mackay, Community and Economic Development Director of the City of Phoenix.
